Weldon is Barnes Alford’s senior partner. He focuses his practice on medical malpractice defense, representing hospitals and physicians in defending liability claims. His current caseload includes birth injury, stroke, paraplegia, and other serious bodily injury and wrongful death claims. He brings a depth of experience to his clients making him a top resource for professionals in the healthcare industry.

Weldon has been listed in South Carolina Super Lawyers in the area of medical malpractice defense and in 2016 was ranked among the Top 25 attorneys in South Carolina by that publication’s nomination, research, and blue ribbon review process. He also maintains an AV peer review rating by Martindale Hubbell and has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, which recognized him in 2016 and again for 2025 as the Medical Malpractice Law – Defendants “Lawyer of the Year” for Columbia, SC. In 2012, the South Carolina Association for Justice honored him by presenting him its Worthy Adversary Award in recognition of his “professionalism, honesty, ethical behavior, and distinguished service to the legal profession.”

Following graduation from Wofford College in 1966, Weldon received his law degree from the University of South Carolina in 1969, and then served as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation before returning to South Carolina to practice law. He joined with James W. Alford in 1975 to form Alford & Johnson, which merged in 1983 with another firm to form the present partnership.

In 2011, Weldon was selected as the South Carolina Hospital Association’s representative on the Governor’s South Carolina Health Planning Committee and served on the Consumer Protection – Medical Liability Subcommittee. He also helped draft and enact the 2012 Peer Review statute and lectures to its member education programs. He is a certified mediator in both state and federal court.

Weldon authored the South Carolina section of the first and second editions of the Payment Bond Manual published by the American Bar Association. He authored the original South Carolina chapter in Fifty State Construction Lien and Bond Law and co-authored subsequent chapters.
